Set up the Chrome recorder

Install the extension once. It comes already pointed at this server, so there is nothing to configure.

1. Download

Always the latest version, preconfigured for this server.

2. Install in Chrome (one time)

Chrome only allows self-hosted extensions through developer mode. This is a one-time setup.

  1. Unzip the downloaded file into a folder you will keep (do not delete it; Chrome loads from it).
  2. Open chrome://extensions in a new tab.
  3. Turn on Developer mode (top-right toggle).
  4. Click Load unpacked and select the unzipped folder.
  5. When prompted, allow the microphone once.

3. Record a meeting

  1. Join a Google Meet.
  2. Click the Treelife icon in the Chrome toolbar to start recording.
  3. The recording, transcript, and summary appear back on the dashboard.

Already set for this server, so you should not need the Options page. If a teammate ever sees "failed to fetch", open the extension Options and confirm the server address and password are filled.

Updating later

When there is a new version: download again here, unzip over the same folder, then open chrome://extensions and click Reload on the Treelife card. There is no auto-update for self-hosted extensions.
